Harmony Walk

The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County is holding their second harmony walkathon. The money raised by pledges goes to such causes as feeding and educating new immigrants as well as investigating and raising consciousness about race-based hate crimes—crimes whose motivations are often overlooked by the authorities. I walked last fall and enjoyed myself despite the dropping temperature...but this time it's May 21st so it should be nice. Here's the link:

Urgent -- 2 seats available for Feminist Feast

Hello Actiongirls~~

The Feminist Feast is on for this weekend. Tomorrow morning at 9:30 a van will be leaving Windsor, heading to Laurier University for a weekend of revolutionary feminism -- and due to an unfortunate set of events 2 seats have just become available (well, unfortunate for these two but lucky for you!). The first two Actiongirls or U Windsor students or the two who write the most convincing email saying why they should be the ones to come along will get these highly coveted seats. Direct your email to actiongirls at femilicious dot com. (Replace the at and dot, etc.)

Before you commit you should know what you are getting into. Here's the schedule for the weekend:

  • Leave Windsor ~9:30 a.m.
  • Arrive at Laurier approximately 3 hours later. We will have some games and get acquainteds, and the beginnings of zine making.
  • From 4-6:30 Tara McKee from Good For Her (www.goodforher.com) will present a workshop in the Laurier Women's Centre called "Anatomy, Orgasms, & G-spots." There is a suggested donation of $5 for this event.
  • After the workshop we eat and watch movies. The night will be spent billotted with generous Laurier students so bring your sleeping bags and pillows.
  • Sunday we continue with zine making and follow it up (and finish up the weekend) with:
  • a Knitting Revolution. Needles and yarn will be found a-plenty and in some public space we will make it political by discussing the issues that are important to us.
  • We'll head back to Windsor in the late afternoon, returning by 7ish p.m., in time for some good studying time Sunday night, because after all, we are all students.

Big bold feminist cheers to all,

Ned and Nora -- a woman living like a man

We're still meeting on Wednesdays in Chrysler Hall South Rm 255 from 1-2:30 and alternate Saturdays at 2 pm at the Coffee Exchange. The next one there is March 17 although it will be a small group this week. If anyone is still keen to join the group going to Laurier for the Feminist Feast please send an email.

Celebrate Women's Day with Actiongirls

On Tuesday March 6, 2007, Actiongirls will be at Windsor Public Library, Central Branch, 850 Ouellette Avenue from 6:30-7:30 for a discussion about feminism today. We will look at how the UN's Millennium Development goals for 2015 are critically dependent on gender equality and explore what it means to say "I'm not a feminist but..."

Happy International Women's Day from Actiongirls!

The Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015:

Goal 1 -- Halve extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2 -- Achieve universal primary education
