This week's topic is "The F-word: what's wrong with feminism?" and will be at the Sunset Cafe Bar (formerly the Grad House) at 12:00 noon.

One of the critiques from and of 3rd wave feminism is that the word "feminism" has become a bad word, full of negative associations and connotations. Do you call yourself a feminist? Do you concern yourself with what people 'think' feminism is and what you yourself believe it to be? Or do you think instead that the movement for equality would be better served by a different word - or maybe no word at all, only action?

Come out to the Grad House/Sunset CafeBar and join in the discussion.

Friday's discussion was great. There was a turnout of about a dozen people and the discussion was honest, interesting, sometimes controversial and sometimes personal.

We've decided to hold these discussion every other Friday in the future.

Our first official sit-down discussion will be this Friday, September 16 at noon. Come to Chrysler Hall South Rm 255 - across from Social Justice, around the corner from Women's Studies.

There will be a brief planning meeting followed by a discussion of body hair: keeping it, removing it, the Brazilian wax and whether there is any correlation with pedophilia, etc. etc.

I'd like to record our discussion for a podcast so we'll discuss this before we start too.

The official call for submissions will go out next week but here's the advance:

Actiongirls will present an original full-length performance at the end of November 2005. We are soliciting monologues, dialogues, performance art, etc, etc, etc from students campus-wide on the theme of The Working Body.

Submissions should relate to women's bodies on some level, whether it be in a personal context, within a relationship, or on a community or global level.

You may submit with the desire to perform the work yourself or to have it performed by other actor(s).

Tara McKee of Good For Her is booked for October 7, 2005 (see edit above). She will be coming from Toronto to present a Sexuality Workshop in the Ambassador Auditorium.

The topic of the workshop is up to us - she is willing to consider our needs in order to develop a workshop that is specifically suited to U of Windsor students.
